No connection after upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11

The settings file of the Add-In, which also keeps the user credentials for the connection, is encrypted by the Data Protection API of Windows. In case you upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 the individual encryption key may changes and the encrypted user credentials cannot be read anymore. You might get an error message that you credentials are wrong and you cannot access Jira anymore.

To fix this you need to close Outlook first and then edit the configuration file calles settings.json which is located at

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Outlook Connector for Jira

If you do not have any individual settings you can also just rename the settings file and it will be recreated when outlook is started again.

In case you want to keep your settings, just search for the “Credentials” block and remove it. It will be added again, when you start Outlook. Please keep the syntax intact.

Credentials": { "Username": "AQAAANCMnd8BFdERjHoAwE/...", "Password": "AQAAANCMnd8BFdERjHoAwE/...", "ApiToken": "AQAAANCMnd8BFdERjHoAwE... " },

After that you start Outlook again and the file will be recreated / the missing credentials block will be added. You now to add you credentials again and it will be encrypted by the Data Protection API of Windows 11.
